GREEN MANAGEMENT
2011 Ventura Hillsides Music Festival will showcase green event
management
The 2011 Ventura Hillsides Music Festival will once again feature sustainable green production and management. This year's Music Festival should be the Ventura land trust’s greenest festival ever.
It begins with the generators that feed the powerful sound system. These workhorses are powered with biodiesel fuel. Made from vegetable oils, biodiesel is a growingly popular alternative to petroleum-based fuels.
All Festival T-shirts, totes, and caps are made of organic cotton, and the artwork is printed with PVC-free inks. All posters are printed on high post-consumer recycled content paper.
Then there’s the tail-end through put: trash. Festival management works with the City of Ventura’s Environmental Services Office to provide containers for recyclables. The haul off will take advantage of the
City of Ventura’s Environmental Services Office arrangement with Harrison Industries to ensure recyclables from the Music Festival are diverted from the waste stream.
As always, concert goers are encouraged to travel to the event on foot, bicycle, or skateboard. A bike corral will be provided for secure storage.
"We really went for ramping up our green practices this year," says Lynn Bartosh, Festival Manager. "Our commitment to open space preservation and restoration is easily expanded in making sure our events and programs pay attention to sustainable techniques."
