The Ventura Hillsides Preserve's Conceptual Recreation plan is a tangible vision of how hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners - even equestrians- will access and recreate in the Preserve area. The Ventura Hillsides Preserve is a cornerstone of the city of Ventura's General Plan.
Three types of trails are recommended for the Ventura Hillsides Preserve in the Conceptual Recreation Plan. Type A, shown in bright orange, would be multi-use trails for pedestrians and bicycles. these trails would use existing paths and unpaved roads where possible. Type B trails would be limited to the northernmost preserve areas, generally centered on Cañada Larga and Upper Aliso Canyon. These facilities would allow all user types, including equestrians. A third category includes "toe-of-slope" trails serving the neighborhoods of the westside along the historic route of the Mission Aqueduct.
